Data cabling is an essential part of the modern working environment. Electronic devices need to talk to each other, and connecting them together physically – via a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable – allows for the greatest security and highest speeds.

We are data cabling contractors based in Hampshire, but serving the south of the UK covering Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey, Sussex, and south-west London.

Typical data cabling projects include:

• Putting in new Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables and sockets

Some data cabling companies are limited to data cable wiring only. At Infinity Energy Services, we are also NICEIC-approved electricians, and can offer a one-stop shop for projects where both data and electrical work is required.

What is Cat 5 wiring and how does it differ from Cat 5e wiring?

• Category 5 cable, normally called Cat 5 cable, is a twisted pair cable for computer networks.
• A few years ago, there was an update to the specification and the improved version is Category 5e, or Cat 5e. The improvements mainly dealt with eliminating so-called ‘cross-talk’, which is when one circuit interferes with another.
• Cat 5 / Cat 5e allows for data performance of up to 100 MHz, and can be used in ethernet networks over twisted pair up to 1000BASE-T.

Is Cat 6 cabling better than Cat 5e?

• Category 6 cable, also known as Cat 6, is also twisted pair cable for computer networks.
• It’s backward-compatible with both Cat 5 and 5e.
• Compared with Cat 5 and Cat 5e, Cat 6 benefits from stricter controls over cross-talk and system noise.
• Cat 6’s performance has also been increased to up to 250 MHz.
