Battery Storage Installation for the Home

Energy independence with solar battery storage – cut electricity bills by up to 91%

Most of our solar customers choose battery storage to capture excess solar electricity to use at expensive peak times and during the night.

  • Store free solar energy – Keep more of your home-generated solar power
  • Cut grid reliance – Import less electricity from the grid
  • Charge off-peak – Top up batteries when tariffs are cheaper overnight
  • Back-up power – Stay powered during outages (certain models)
  • Lower carbon footprint – Reduce emissions with clean, renewable energy
  • Finance options – Spread the cost with flexible payment solutions

Choosing Battery Storage

What to consider when choosing battery storage

There are a number of factors to bear in mind, including:

  1. Do you have solar panels and, if so, how large is your array?
  2. How many kWh of electricity does your home need per day?
  3. Do you have any high power items?
  4. Do you want to have power in a power-cut?

These are some of the items to keep in mind when sizing battery storage and wondering which features are required. Contact our expert team for a tailored analysis of your situation.

Battery Storage Technology

Home battery storage technology delivers smarter energy control, backup power, and savings for UK households – even if there are no solar panels. These systems optimise energy use with smart apps, store off-peak electricity, and smoothly integrate with solar or grid energy. Modern units are modular, easy to monitor, and help homeowners cut bills and carbon emissions.

  • Works with or without solar panels: Charges from the grid or solar PV for flexible savings
  • Smart energy management: Uses apps and learning algorithms to optimise usage and reduce bills
  • Backup power: Keeps important devices running during outages (model-dependent)
  • Modular and scalable: Easily adapted for flats or houses, with future upgrade options
  • User-friendly monitoring: Track savings and usage via intuitive dashboard

* Savings Calculations
The savings calculations follow MCS’ official guidelines and are based on a typical 4.95 kWp solar panel system installed in Southampton on an unshaded south-facing roof with a pitch of 40 degrees, with 10.36 kWh of battery storage. The home’s electricity demand is 5,000 kWh per year, the cost of grid electricity is 26.35p per kWh, the occupants are in during the day, and they are signed up to Octopus Energy’s ‘Outgoing Fixed’ Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff of 15p per kWh (you must be an Octopus Energy customer to get this rate – other SEG rates are available with other energy suppliers).
